Jack is the brilliant mind behind Resquared's cutting-edge technology. Recently promoted to Chief Technology Officer, Jack is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of the company's innovative software solution. With a wealth of experience in the tech industry, Jack has brought a unique blend of technical expertise, strategic thinking, and leadership skills to the role.
In this blog, we'll take a closer look at what inspired Jack to join Resquared and pursue a career in technology, how his team approaches their work and the most significant rewards of working at Resquared! Let’s get into it.
Jack joined Resquared in April of 2021 as a lead software engineer. He was immediately intrigued by the “local” approach that defines Resquared.
“I'm very into localism. I love local food, I love local stores and think it's more important than ever to focus on building out our communities to be great. So, I had to jump at the opportunity to build technology centered around a philosophy I believe in.”
What drives someone to pursue a career in technology? For Jack, it was a combination of curiosity, creativity, and a desire to create things.
“I love to build things, and technology is the most creative way to build. I'm happy when I'm making things, I think it's just part of my nature I've been like that for as long as I remember.”
Drawing from years of experience in the tech industry, Jack has learned a thing or two about what it takes to be an effective tech leader.
“Finish what you start, and focus on getting your ideas launched. There's no point in having a bunch of projects that are 90% complete. Get your work out there and get market validation. It's the only way you'll continue to learn and progress.”
“Everyone who gets in this space has ideas they want to see come to life. If you want to become a technology leader or entrepreneur, the best start is by building things you think other people might want.”
Running a digital engineering team is no small feat, but for Jack, it's a challenge that he relishes. Jack explains how he builds and manages a successful technology team, including the metrics he uses to gauge performance and measure progress.
“We just try to build the simplest solutions to solve our customers' problems. When the team is aligned on solving these problems, everything else can just click into place.”
“The only way to measure product and engineering success is in the market. When we see customers enjoying the things we build, we know we're on the right track!”
As everyone at Resquared knows, Jack loves a great Sci-Fi book. We asked him about his most recent favorite book and why it’s his favorite.
“The Three-Body Problem by Cixin Liu. Great science fiction that talks about everything from rocket technology to the place of humans in the universe and what that means. Fantastic book and a fantastic series that uses SciFi to explore what it means to be human.”
