What a lead is, and how leads reach you
A lead is a local business that wrote back interested in what you sell. Here is what counts, what does not, how fast they come in and what happens when one arrives.
What is a lead?
A lead is a business that replied to your campaign interested in what you sell: asking for a price or a quote, asking for a call or more information, or simply saying yes.
A referral counts too, in a softer way. When an owner writes back "reach out to our corporate office" or "talk to Jason, he handles that", you have a name and a next step.
What is not a lead?
Auto-replies, out-of-office messages, "not interested", unsubscribe requests and bounced emails. Those are replies, but nobody is asking to hear from you, so they are not counted as leads.
How fast do leads come in?
Often within the first few days of sending. Some arrive the same day the campaign starts; others take a week or more. It depends on your trade, your area and how many businesses there fit what you sell.
What happens when a business replies?
The reply is forwarded to your own inbox, with the business set as the reply-to address, and it also shows in your Resquared account. You answer it the way you answer any email, and that answer comes from your own address.
What should I do when a lead comes in?
Answer quickly. An owner who writes back to a first email is deciding right then, and the seller who gets back to them first usually gets the conversation.
If the reply has a phone number, call it. Owners of small businesses get a lot of email, and a short call surfaces the questions they will not type out.
